PREVACID is available as a capsule, orally disintegrating tablet and oral suspension, and is available in 15 mg and 30 mg strengths. Directions for use specific to the route and available methods of administration for each of these dosage forms is presented below. PREVACID should be taken before eating. PREVACID products Should Not Be Crushed or Chewed. In the clinical trials, antacids were used concomitantly with PREVACID. No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with renal insufficiency or the elderly. For patients with severe liver disease, dosage adjustment should be considered.

Prevacid Side Effects:

The most common side effects reported with Prevacid were diarrhea, headache, and taste perversion.
Prevacid is not recommended for patients with creatinine clearance less than 30mL/min. Clarithromycin is contraindicated in patients taking cisapride, pimozide, astemizole or terfenadine; or in patients with a known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or any macrolide antibiotic. Clarithromycin may elevate digoxin serum concentrations. Serum digoxin levels should be carefully monitored while digoxin and clarithromycin are taken concomitantly. Clarithromycin should not be used in pregnant women except in circumstances where no alternative therapy is appropriate. Amoxicillin is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to penicillin.

You should also tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to Prevacid, its ingredients, or to any drug in the past. Finally, your doctor will also need to know if you are pregnant or nursing.
