Bactroban Cream (Mupirocin) comes in an ointment that is applied to the skin. Bactroban Cream / Mupirocin usually is applied three times a day for 1-2 weeks. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Bactroban Cream exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Wash the affected skin area thoroughly, and then gently apply a small amount (a thin film) of the ointment. You may cover the area with a sterile gauze dressing.
Do not apply Bactroban Cream / Mupirocin to your eyes.
Do not apply Bactroban Cream to burns unless told to do so by your doctor.

Although side effects from Bactroban Cream / Mupirocin are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
burning, stinging, pain, itching, or rash

Precautions on using Mupirocin Medication

Before taking Mupirocin, tell your doctor and pharmacist:
   if you are allergic to mupirocin or any other drugs.
  what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially chloramphenicol (Chloromycetin).
   if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Bactroban Cream / Mupirocin, call your doctor.
